Hello Everyone

Sadly the 2019 golf season is slowly coming to an end, and with that we have just a few house keeping items to touch on.

Our official closing date will be Thursday Oct 31st as the weather leading up to and after is not very good for golf. We are hoping that the rain holds off this weekend and everyone is able to get in a round.

With the 31st marked as the closing date, we ask that everyone has their lockers cleared and push carts removed from storage area by the 29th for winter cleaning. We also ask that anyone who has a power cart in the compound that it be removed before the 31st.

Lastly we do still have a few days left for holiday rentals in the lounge. It makes a perfect setting for small businesses or large family gatherings and bonus you don’t have to clean your house. Please pass an email along to [email protected] for details or to book.

Hello Everyone

A symbolic tree planting will take place on Wednesday, September 25 at 6:30 pm, at the new trees on the right side of hole #1.  This is taking place to show our respect and gratitude for members of the association that supported the Muni through the years. It also provides a time to reflect on our memories of those that can no longer join us at the course.  Please feel welcome to come out to take part in this event and shovel a small scoop of soil to help us recognize many contributions made over the years.

Just a quick mid month update on things coming up at course.

This Monday Doug Pinder is holding a 2 man scramble at 1pm. Teams will be made via Handicaps and its sure to be a fun day with Burgers on the grill after the round. Cost is $25 and there is still plenty of room for players looking to get onto the sign up sheet on the information board. 

This Saturday we will also be hosting 36 holes of Romeo Cup action against the SCC. Tee times start at 8am and 1pm for anyone who wishes to come out and watch. 

Lastly our 2019 Annual General Meeting, will be hosted on Wednesday October 16th at 7pm in the Clubhouse. There are fliers posted around clubhouse, and we encourage all members to attend.

Hope everyone is enjoying the last long weekend of Summer, as we slowly move towards fall golf, I just wanted to send out a quick update on the course and events coming up as we move into September.

Yesterday we were able to get an early aeration done on our greens!! this maintenance practice is a must to maintain good turf health and produce great greens. You may ask why so early when most years/courses are done near end of September? but this is actually the time to do them as warmer temps help with faster recovery and new growth. Meaning less time noticing the aeration holes!! and past practices have seen tournaments/ golfers pushing for later aeration dates. This new aeration time will help in continually seeing our greens improve as we strive to have the best greens around.

In September we see the end of most leagues, including Men’s league which ends with our Men’s closing day on Sept 7th. Tee times can be booked at the pro-shop counter with times available from 10:30am till 4:30pm with a meal provided for league players.

We will also see 12 of our Muni players play against the Stratford Country Club for the Romeo Cup on the 14th and 15th of September!!! We encourage anyone who wants to come out to the Muni on the 14th and cheer on our players to do so, as we go for our 6th win in 7 years.

Just a quick update on how our Men’s Club Championship finished up. Congratulations to our 2019 Champ Dean Sharp who finished with a two day total of 146. Our A flight Champ Jamie Flood who finished with a 148, B flight Champ Robert Coleman 153, C flight Champ Pat Bannon 159 and D flight champ Roger Lloyd 169.

Thank you everyone who participated, and hopefully numbers will continue to grow in the future.

Lawn Bowling green fee opportunity.

Some Muni members have expressed an interest in trying lawn bowling and 5 have already given it a try.  It has now been organized that Muni members/family/partners are able to try lawn bowling on a $5.00 green fee basis.  If you wish to try I have provided some times below for that.  These are times when lawn bowling club members are at the green to help you get playing and provide some guidance.

If you see me, Steve Nesbitt, at the golf course then let me know if you will be out for one of these times or if you have questions. You can also email me at    [email protected]     if that works.  I would like to know just in case a large number of people want to try at anyone time.

Flat soled athletic shoes are recommended but some bowlers wear sandals.

Just a quick update as we are fully into August!!!

Our Club Championship is this weekend and we still have room for more players wishing to play Sign up deadline is Thursday at 12 noon.

We also will be having our Jr. Club Championship on Monday August 19th during the Jr. Program. Along with a fun tournament for non members who wish to play. Sign up sheet is on the Bulletin Board in clubhouse.

Lastly our final Social night of the summer on August 23rd with the option to try out lawn bowling!!! The last two nights have been great nights out on the patio with great music and food.

Just a quick mid-month reminder of the things coming up later in July around the course.

Our Sr. Men’s Club Championship is coming up on Sunday July 21st, Sign up deadline is this Wednesday and players can sign up at the Pro shop counter.

We will also be hosting our second Social night of the year on Friday July 26th. It is a great night of golf, food and music as we are joined again by Jack and the Hartbeats on the Patio.

Lastly Thank You to everyone who came out and supported the Muni Invitational it was a great day which saw 66 golfers competing for the title and enjoying a steak meal and fantastic prize table.

Just a quick update on some key dates around the golf course in July.

Our Men’s Invitational is coming up this Saturday July 6th. There are only a few spots left, for this great event which includes 18 holes, steak dinner, and full prize table. Sign up can be done at the Pro shop counter, and sign up deadline is Thursday at 12pm.

The Monday morning program starts Monday, July 8.  Registration begins at 8:30. The program runs until 12 noon.  Price remains the same as last year – $5 for club members and $20 for non-members.  There is information on the Stratford Municipal Golf Course website under the heading leagues. This year the emphasis for the program will be on the play on the course with instructions about proper etiquette of the game.

Volunteers are always welcome to help mentor the juniors around the course.

In particular, a volunteer is needed to work with the young introductory players (6 – 8year olds).  If anyone is interested please let Kyle or Steve Nesbitt know or leave your name and contact information at the booth in the clubhouse.

We will also see our Smoke Cole Sr. Event on Thursday July 11th at 9am and Our Sr Club Championship on Sunday July 21st at 9am both sign ups can be found at Pro shop Counter as well.

Lastly it has been brought forward to the city that a car bottomed out leaving the parking lot, as most of you already know it is a steep incline and caution must be used when coming in and out!!!

Finally we have started to see some dry days and the course is rounding into shape. With that I just wanted to send out a quick reminder of all upcoming events at the Muni. We will see our First Social night of the year this Friday with golf from 4pm-6pm, Steak or Chicken Meal to follow and Jack and the Hartbeats live on the patio. Cost is $20 per person and sign up can be found at the Pro shop Counter. We will also see our annual Muni vs Mitchell Sr’s event start June 27th in Mitchell, with spot still available for any Sr looking to Sign up. Lastly we will see our 3rd Muni Invitational taking place on Saturday July 6th. Cost is $40 for members and $65 for non members, its a great day of golf followed by a steak meal and fantastic prize table. I look forward to seeing lots of players out for these events enjoying what the Muni offers
