As we approach the end of the season, we have a few important updates to share:

Annual General Meeting (AGM)

We invite all 2024 members of the Stratford Municipal Golf Course to attend our Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Wednesday, November 13th, at 7 PM in the clubhouse. This meeting is open exclusively to 2024 members. It’s a great opportunity to discuss the year, share feedback, and plan for the future of our club. We hope to see as many members as possible attend!

Year-End Members Closing Scramble

We’re looking forward to wrapping up the season in style with our Members Closing Scramble this Saturday, October 5th. For those who have signed up, the event will begin with an 11 AM shotgun start. We’re excited to see everyone for a fun day of golf, prizes, and celebration. Let’s make it a great finale to the season!

Driving Range Closure

As the season winds down, please note that the driving range will close for the season on Monday, October 14th. This will give us time to remove the nets and complete necessary repairs to the tee blocks. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation as we prepare the range for winter.

Course Closure – Weather Dependent

While the range will close soon, we’re hoping for more opportunities to get out on the course! Our course closure will remain weather-dependent, and we’re optimistic that we can enjoy some late October or even early November golf if the weather cooperates. Keep an eye on updates as we make decisions based on course conditions.

It’s been a thrilling week here at The Muni! We’re excited to share some big wins and remind you of a few upcoming events.

Romeo Cup Champions!
A huge congratulations to Team Muni for their incredible performance in the Romeo Cup! After a hard-fought weekend, we proudly secured a dominating victory over Stratford Country Club, winning 18-6. Our team gave it their all, and it paid off! Well done to everyone involved—your dedication and teamwork were inspiring!

Smoke Cole Memorial Winners
Congratulations to Wayne Huggins, winner of the Smoke Cole Memorial, and Lonnie McKay, the Net Winner! It was a great day in memory of Smoke, and we were honored to have his son Dave here to play and present the plaque.

Upcoming Event: Members Closing Scramble
Don’t forget our Members Closing Scramble on Saturday, October 5th! This 4-person scramble will be followed by a meal and door prizes. The cost is $35, and sign-up is available at the pro shop counter. There are only 72 spots, so make sure to reserve yours before it’s too late!

Next Week: Hosting the PGA of Canada
Next week, we’re honored to host the PGA of Canada for a 3-day event. Please note the following:

• Monday to Wednesday: The clubhouse will be closed for the event.
• Tuesday: The range will be closed.
• However, the side door closest to the ladies’ room and the outside entrance to the men’s locker room will remain open for access.

We appreciate your understanding as we host this event!

Tonight: Howling Moon Tailgate Party!
Join us tonight on the patio for the Howling Moon Tailgate Party! From 6 PM to 9 PM, enjoy live music and all your favorite tailgate foods—wings, burgers, poutine, and more. It’s the perfect way to kick off your weekend, so grab some friends and come on down!

This Weekend: The Romeo Cup!
Get ready for an action-packed weekend of golf as we host the Romeo Cup! The competition kicks off this Saturday with 36 holes at the Stratford Country Club, starting at 8 AM, followed by the final round of 18 holes here at The Muni on Sunday, starting at 9 AM.

We encourage all spectators to come out to either course to watch some thrilling golf and cheer on Team Muni as we strive to defend the cup!

This past weekend, we were thrilled to host our Ladies Club Championship, where 45 dedicated women competed with great enthusiasm. Congratulations to our champions:

Upcoming Events and Reminders:

• Smoke Cole Tournament: A quick reminder that the registration deadline for the Smoke Cole Tournament is September 5th. Don’t miss out on this fantastic event, which is a highlight for our male members aged 55 and over.
• Greens Aeration on Thursday: Our greens will be aerated this Thursday, which is a vital maintenance practice to ensure our greens remain in top shape. Please note that the course will be closed in the morning to allow our grounds crew to complete this important work.
• Cobra Fitting Day: Also this Thursday, we’re hosting a Cobra Golf Fitting Day from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. If you’re interested in being fit for the latest Cobra clubs, please book your spot at the pro shop counter. Spaces are limited, so be sure to reserve your spot soon!
• Men’s League Final Standings: The final standings for our Men’s League are now posted, and we’d like to congratulate the 2024 League Champions: The Muni Masters! We had an exciting weekend here at The Muni with some fantastic golf and fierce competition. Congratulations to our new Men’s Club Champions:

Men’s Club Champion: Ben Thornton with a stellar score of -2 over two days.  Senior Men’s Champion: Greg Prezscator with a solid score of +5.
Senior Net Champion: Don Moon with an impressive score of -6.

These champions showed great skill and determination, and we are proud to celebrate their success.

Ladies’ Club Championship This Weekend:

This weekend, we turn our attention to the Ladies’ Club Championship! Tee times start at 7:30 AM, with lunch and prizing to follow between 12:30 PM and 3:00 PM. We’re excited to see our ladies compete, and we wish everyone the best of luck!

Smoke Cole Tournament Rescheduled:

The Smoke Cole Tournament, for male club members aged 55 and over, has been rescheduled. It will now take place on Thursday, September 12th, with a 9:00 AM start for the 18-hole tournament. Registration is open until Thursday, July 5th. You can sign up at the clubhouse counter. The cost is $15, payable to Steve Nesbitt by cash or e-transfer at [email protected]. Don’t miss out on this fantastic event!

In Memoriam: Tom Demo

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of long-time member Tom Demo. Tom was a cherished member of our community, and his presence will be deeply missed. The family will be holding a Celebration of Life this Saturday, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, in the clubhouse. Please join us as we honor Tom’s memory and celebrate the life of a wonderful individual.

Dear Members and Guests,

It seems Mother Nature is not quite done with us yet. After yesterday’s intense storm, which brought 2 1/4 inches of rain in just three hours, we are facing some challenges with our course conditions once again.

Current Course Conditions:

• Driving Range: The range will remain closed today due to the excessive water from the storm. We will provide updates as soon as conditions improve and we can reopen.
• Carts: We will continue to assess conditions for carts throughout the day. While the chances for carts today are VERY SLIM, today’s forecast of hot and sunny weather may help us drain fast enough to allow carts this afternoon. Please call the pro shop to check for the latest updates on cart availability before arrival.

Despite these setbacks, our team is working diligently to manage the water and maintain the course. Your patience and understanding during this time are greatly appreciated.

What a week it has been! We’ve experienced an incredible 9 inches of rain over five days, resulting in some challenging conditions for our course. Despite these obstacles, our dedicated grounds crew has done an amazing job moving water off the course and getting us back open for play.

Current Course Conditions:

• Carts: Carts remain off the course to prevent damage and allow the grounds to recover.
• Driving Range: The range is still closed as it continues to dry out.
• Expected Updates: We are hopeful to see both carts and the range return for the weekend. Please stay tuned for updates via Chronogolf or call the pro shop for the latest details.

Event Updates:

• Smoke Cole Memorial: Unfortunately, the Smoke Cole Memorial event was canceled due to the weather. We are currently looking at reschedule dates and will update everyone once a new date is set. We appreciate your understanding and look forward to hosting this special event soon.
• Social Night: Don’t forget about our upcoming social night on July 26th from 6pm to 9pm. Enjoy live music on the patio with Rod and Reba. The evening will feature a backyard BBQ/food truck theme for a delightful culinary experience. It’s the perfect way to unwind and enjoy a summer evening with friends.
